Our holiday will include some of best sights in the South Island of New Zealand.  After the long flight, we will spend a couple of days in and around Auckland to acclimatise before heading south to Wellington. During our short stay here, we may include a walk to the top of Mount Victoria.  We then take a ferry across the Cook Strait to Picton, before arranging our hire vehicles.

From Picton, we drive west, along the north coast of the South Island, to Nelson.  We look forward to 3 full days here, including walks in the Abel Tasman National Park and a cruise around Tasman Bay.

From Nelson, we head south and west to Franz Josef in the foothills of the Southern Alps for another 4 night stay.  During this time we will enjoy a hike on the Franz Josef Glacier and other walks in the area, such as the Lake Wombat Track and the Callery Gorge Walk.

Our next destination is Queenstown.  During our 3 days here we will include a day trip to Milford Sound and a boat cruise in Fiordland.  We can also visit Arrowtown and try our hand at gold panning.

Our final destination is Christchurch.  We will spend our last couple of nights here for a final bit of sightseeing, which may include a trip to the summit of Mount Cavendish in the Christchurch Gondola.

Outline Itinerary

CANCELLED New Zealand: 30 January – 20 February 2022

It is with regret that, due to the Virus and changing personal priorities, I have cancelled the trip to New Zealand in February 2022.

I enjoyed planning the trip and was looking forward to it, as I’m sure many of you were.  By cancelling now, before definite plans are made, the time can be used for other holidays instead.  For myself, that means I can go on holiday in 2021 in the UK instead of saving all my Leave for 2022.

I will keep details of the itinerary for the trip and hope to return to New Zealand again in a few years when all restrictions have been lifted.

Ten years after the first ‘trip of a lifetime’ to New Zealand, I am planning a return trip to celebrate reaching another milestone.  I have announced details now to give you plenty of time to decide and to allow you to save both time and money for the trip.

The trip will mainly be a South Island tour, including Abel Tasman National Park, Franz Josef Glacier, Queenstown and finish in Christchurch.  But we will start in Auckland for a bit of nostalgia, including a walk on Rangitoto Island, before travelling south by train, via National Park, to Wellington.
